Celebrating B'more for Healthy Babies during #BlackMaternalHealthWeek2022

During #BlackMaternalHealthWeek (April 11-17) we once again celebrated the crucial achievements of B'more for Healthy Babies UDH—an incentive that has contributed to record-low infant mortality outcomes in Upton/Druid Heights (U/DH).

Under BHB’s community stewardship since 2009, the infant mortality rate in U/DH dropped by 75% to 3.8 deaths per 1,000 live births. This important rate is lower than the city’s overall white infant mortality rate (4.4 in 2009) and is comparable to wealthier Baltimore communities that are far less negatively affected by well known social determinants of health.

What’s the take-away? Outreach, education, & community partnerships DO work, and BHB continues to offer important programs and opportunities that continue improving Black maternal and family health.
