After a year of pandemic isolation, in March 2020, families of Upton/Druid Heights visited Port Discovery for a night of fun

“Play is one of the most important ways we can support children and families and make positive change in our communities. Many places where kids play, learn, and connect with others have “off limits” restrictions. And since families often face too many demands on their free time and resources, “play” can be much harder than it sounds.”

Emanuel Figueroa, Port Discovery's Director of Individual and Community Relations

On Friday, March 26, a group of Furman L. Templeton (FLT) students and their families joined more than fifty other families from a variety of area schools to experience a lively and interactive evening visiting Port Discovery Children's Museum. This was one of their PlayMakers gatherings, and everyone blew off a little steam while exploring hands-on exhibits, singing and dancing to music, and more.

Thanks to Wildlife Adventures, one of the evening's biggest hits was learning about unusual animals that everyone met and had a chance to touch or hold in this safe, fun, and educational shared space.

Keep an eye out, since in the coming months, there will be more community excursions to enjoy!
